After receiving my fourth Gousto Vegetarian Box I thought it was time that I did a review and shared some of the photos I’ve take of meals over the last month or two. But before I get started on my Gousto Vegetarian Box Review don’t forget I have a huge discount code here which means you can order your first box for as little as £8!
I got my first box with the offer I’ve mentioned above through a friend and I haven’t been able to stop since. We started getting the 5 meals for 2 people box and have now changed to the 3 meals for 2 people box as we only cook three times on weekdays (thankful for a roast dinner at the in laws on a Wednesday and save our Friday night for takeaway night). We never know where we are on weekends so tend to cook our own easy meals like jacket potatoes or sausage and mash.
The Comforting Lentil Cottage Pie was one of our favourites from the first Gousto Vegetarian Box. It was such a big portion and it came with broccoli to serve too. We also had Roasted Whole Tomato with Herby Feta Risotto, Butternut Squash Bhuna, Amatriciana Spaghetti and Sweet ‘N’ Smoky BBQ Meat Free Fajitas.
The Bhuna was delicious but you do need a food processor for this recipe. Luckily I have my Nutribullet but remember to check the “Special Equipment” needed when choosing meals. The Meat Free Fajitas was the first time trying the “Meat Free Chick’n” and we’ve ordered it again and again since. I’ve found the wraps to be huge portions too!
In our second box we had the Honey Baked Greek Cheese and Crispy Gnocchi, Bangin’ BBQ Stuffed Peppers, Southern Thai Style Meat Free Curry and Meat-Free Bangers and Beans. The Meatless Farm Sausages were absolutely incredible. I’d love to order these again but they seem to only be included in “Bangers and Mash” meals which is something I can cook at home easily anyway.
The Southern Thai-Style Meat Free Chicken Panang Curry was my favourite from the second Gousto Vegetarian Box by far. It was my first time cooking a Thai Curry although I cook curries weekly. I’m definitely going to make and effort to cook more Thai Style foods.
I couldn’t believe how easy the Sweetcorn Fitters were to make in the BBQ Stuffed Peppers meal. Something I’m going to try again, maybe with some different ingredients.
Our third box and the last I’m going to mention in this Gousto Vegetarian Box Review contained BBQ Beans on Toast Veggie Burger, Roman Pizza Parmigiana with Aubergine, Meat-Free Chicken Teriyaki Tray Bake, Meat-Free Bacon and Cherry Tomato Risotto and Beany Tacos with Greek Cheese Crumb and Corn Salsa. It’s very very hard to chose a favourite from these. I loved them all so much.
The pizza was really enjoyable to cook, Sam and I did this for one of our Thursday night date nights. Aubergine isn’t something I’d usually choose for a pizza but it was delicious. The Ultimate Vegan Burger Patties we’re really to my taste but Sam loved them. They were a bit “meaty” for me. I know that sounds silly but I’m vegetarian because I don’t really like the taste of meat, especially red meat and this was a bit too similar for my liking. Sam thought it was incredible though.
The flavours on the Teriyaki Tray Bake were divine, really unique and the Beany Tacos were simple but delicious. I really enjoyed the Meat Free Bacon Rashers in the Risotto too.
One thing I will say with Gousto is some of the portions are quite small compared to other boxes, especially the carbohydrate portions such as rice or gnocchi and I’ve still been hungry after both of the risottos. I find that we often add some extra rice or some freezer veggies to bulk it up a little bit. All at a minimal expense. The tortilla/taco meals have always been huge and the pizzas were one each which was amazing.
I love that your first box comes with a recipe folder and each recipe you order has it’s own recipe card, hole punched ready to insert into the folder. You can then keep your favourite recipes on hand and can buy the ingredients yourself without needing to order the same recipes again. I’m been trying to order all of the Gousto Vegetarian Recipes so I can have a folder full of them!
I hope this Gousto Vegetarian Box Review has helped you decide whether to order a box for yourself. Don’t forget to use my discount code if you do order one as it gives you a discount and also means I can keep ordering boxes and writing these reviews for you.
