Alongside our renovation, I’ve really felt like I’ve need a passion project, something to get me through the days, something to look forward to and a way to get outdoors and enjoy the sun. The garden has become mine and we’ve had so much fun updating one of the seating areas with the help of Very. We’re a month into living in the new house and we’re yet to sort out a TV, or even WIFI and none of us have complained once!

I’ll be the first to say that I know NOTHING about gardening. But I’m enjoying learning as a go, and spending time with family and friends that know a lot more about it than I do. I couldn’t be without my Dad’s wife, who gets messages from me at all hours asking for her to identify a plant or flower. Yes – she has told me to get a plant app multiple times. Sam’s Mum knows so much too, and keeps coming over with bedding plants, and vegetables to grow in our allotment/greenhouse. We’ve also got a lovely customer turned friend that’s a gardener for a living and we definitely couldn’t be without his expertise – and the surplus to requirement garden tools, flowers and plants he kindly brings over.

We feel so spoilt by space in our new garden. We’ve got so many little areas that each have so much character already thanks to the previous owners, but we’re enjoying putting our personal touches on it too. Even on a very small budget. One of these has been a seating area towards the back of the garden that needed a bit of TLC. We’ve painted the Pergola (if you can call it that), fixed some of the broken panels, replaced and felted the roof and then added this gorgeous garden furniture. We’ve added an indoor-outdoor rug in a lovely Taupe colour, some decorative items such as these lanterns and a hot air balloon lantern that’s one of Arthur’s favourite things in the garden. We’ve also added a faux bamboo plant which we’ll probably bring inside once it’s less of a building site.
This area is one of the last to get sun in the evening so Sam and I have been enjoying coming out here for a cold drink once the boys have (finally) gone to sleep. It’s become such a cosy spaces. I want to get a couple of outdoor cushions for the chairs and then I think this area will be finished. I’ve added a before photo below, along with all of us getting stuck in on a gardening day – how much different does it look now?

We also have another seating area at the other side of the garden that I think is crying out for this bistro set – although I’m having to convince Sam on the colour… I feel so lucky that we have so many areas of the garden to enjoy. Very have so many brilliant garden decor ideas too, I’m finding myself scrolling through their website multiple times a day to get ideas for our next garden project!
