There are many good reasons to do business in San Diego, but one that you may not have given adequate consideration to is the 70 miles of coastline that the city enjoys. Depending on the industry in which you work, it may be significant to your business or it may have little to do with your day-to-day operations. However, it offers opportunities for team building activities San Diego or celebrations of important company milestones.
Stand-up Paddle Boarding
Stand-up paddle boarding is a sport that has gained in popularity over just the past few years. There are many places on San Diego beaches where you can rent paddle boards, complete with oars. If your team members are unfamiliar, you could take lessons, but if your team has some experience with this aquatic activity, you could try to incorporate team building in the form of races or fishing competitions.
Sunset Sailing Cruise
Many of your team members have probably viewed at least one sunset over the ocean, a much more impressive experience than a sunset over land. However, fewer of them may have witnessed a sunset from the water, which is a magical experience all its own. If you are celebrating a milestone with your team, you can treat them to a sunset cruise. Some private boat tours San Diego offer dinner or cocktails. Sharing food and drink with your team encourages socialization and makes the cruise extra special.
Kayaking
A traditional kayak only holds one person at a time, but newer, more advanced kayaks have been developed that can hold two to three people. As a team building activity, kayaking offers some of the same advantages as stand-up paddle boarding with an added element of cooperation and working toward a common goal involved. Your team members have to learn to work together to propel and move their kayak, which is a useful metaphor for cooperation in the workplace in which everyone has to contribute.
Whale Watching Tour
A whale watching tour is another option for team building sailing. Whale watching is not only adventurous but highly educational as well. No matter what kind of business you run, chances are that it relates in some way to the ocean, whether directly or indirectly, so learning more about the creatures that live in it could be valuable. Whales live in cooperative social groups called pods, which may be a metaphor you can apply to your company. Most of all, sharing a fun, memorable experience helps to build camaraderie among your team.
Snorkeling
Thus far, most of these team-building activities have focused on the surface of the water, but there is so much more going on beneath. Snorkeling allows you and your team to get a peek under the
water at a whole new world, yet it requires less skill than scuba or skin diving, meaning that it is accessible even to team members with no prior experience.
Get creative in thinking about team-building opportunities that are unique to the San Diego area while giving some thought to accessibility and inclusivity.
